Entergy/INL Natural Hazard Resilience Workshop

  • Entergy Headquarters 639 Loyola Avenue New Orleans, LA, 70113 (map)

Background: Idaho National Laboratory, in coordination with Entergy and the Department of Energy Grid Deployment Office, is sponsoring a workshop to discuss the development of a series of tools for enhancing the resilience of the grid to natural hazards. The workshop will feature discussion of current challenges associated with natural hazard resilience experienced by electric power operators and feature demonstrations of capabilities, including:

  • Resilience Guard: An integrated approach to managing near and long-term exposure to hazards.

  • ACCLIMATE: A modeling capability that uses projected changes in environmental conditions to analyze susceptibility of generation, transmission, and distribution assets and components to natural hazards and generate insights on risks to the grid.

  • Storm-DEPART: A near-term planning, response, and recovery tool that was co-developed with ENTERGY and can be used to stage and manage recovery activities for the electric grid.

  • AHA: A modeling tool and infrastructure database that contains millions of assets nationwide and enables analysis of cross-sector dependencies.

Why Attend?

The event is open to all electric sector operators and roles. Past attendees have included operations, finance, and policy personnel from a range of electric sector organizations, including generation and transmission operators, cooperatives, and research organizations. Attendees will gain insights into best practices and evolving approaches to assessing risks; engage in  discussions about proactively addressing regional and local challenges, and explore tools and methods to enhance natural hazard risk management.

Workshop Objectives

  • Understand challenges associated with natural hazard risk and resilience currently faced by electric sector partners, including risk management, cost recovery, and impediments to planning, response, and recovery.

  • Demonstrate INL tools being developed for DOE and elicit feedback on user requirements, development priorities, and use cases for these emerging capabilities

  • Identify electric sector operators and organizations interested in participating in pilot applications of Resilience Guard tools or future technical assistance.
